Mochi Taiyaki (Soft Cake Mix)

Mochi Taiyaki Recipe

Serving Size:
Makes 8-10 Taiyaki (depending on mold size)

Ingredients:

  • 150g Mochi Taiyaki Mix (Mochi Foods Taiyaki Mix)
  • 80g Water (room temperature)
  • 1 Full Egg (about 50g)
  • 27g Oil (vegetable or neutral oil)

Method:

  1. Prepare the Batter:

    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the Mochi Taiyaki mix, water, egg, and oil.
    • Whisk together until the batter is smooth and free of lumps.
  2. Preheat the Taiyaki Mold:

    • Heat your Taiyaki pan to medium heat (around 180°C).
    • Lightly oil the mold if necessary to avoid sticking.
  3. Fill the Taiyaki Mold:

    • Pour the batter into each side of the Taiyaki mold until halfway full.
    • Optionally, add fillings like red bean paste, custard, or chocolate spread in the center of the batter.
  4. Cook the Taiyaki:

    • Close the mold and cook for 2-3 minutes per side, flipping halfway through.
    • Cook until the Taiyaki are golden brown and have a slight crisp on the outside.
  5. Serve:

    • Remove the Taiyaki carefully and allow them to cool for a minute.
    • Enjoy warm for the best texture.

Pro Tips:

  • Fillings: For best results, leave a bit of batter around the edges when adding fillings to ensure proper sealing.
  • Extra Crisp: If you prefer a crispier Taiyaki, reduce the water to 70g and cook each side for an extra minute.
  • Storage and Reheating: Taiyaki is best fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 1 day and reheated in a toaster oven for crispiness.
  • Custard Mix: Use Mochi Foods Custard Mix to fill the inside, its our most popular flavor!
